Frequently asked questions
- Is Base64 encryption?
- No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it instantly. Never use it to protect a password or a secret.
- What does URL-safe change?
- The standard alphabet uses + and /, which have special meaning in URLs. The URL-safe variant replaces them with - and _ and drops the = padding, so the value can travel in a URL or a filename untouched.
- Why was my Base64 rejected?
- Either it contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet, or it decodes to bytes that are not valid UTF-8 text. Binary data such as an image decodes to bytes that cannot be shown as text.
- Is my data uploaded?
- No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser, which is what makes this safe for tokens and configuration values.
