Frequently asked questions
- Will converting to PNG improve the quality?
- No. JPEG compression already discarded detail, and PNG cannot bring it back. PNG simply stops any further loss from happening.
- Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
- PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. For photographs that is almost always bigger than JPEG. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos and line art rather than photos.
- Will the image have transparency?
- No. JPEG cannot store transparency, so there is none to recover. The PNG will be fully opaque.
