Frequently asked questions
- Why do I need a background colour?
- JPEG has no alpha channel. Without a colour to fill them, transparent pixels are encoded as black, which is the most common surprise in this conversion. White is the default and suits most pages.
- What quality should I use?
- Around 90 keeps the result visually identical for most images. Drop to 75 if file size matters more than fine detail.
- Can I convert back to PNG afterwards?
- You can, but the transparency and the detail lost to JPEG compression will not come back. Keep the original PNG if you may need it.
