Sitemap Generator
Turn a list of URLs into a valid sitemap.xml — with the ampersands escaped and the off-site links called out.

How to use
- Paste one URL per line — a crawl export, a list from your CMS, anything.
- Add the optional fields only if you actually maintain them.
- Check the warnings: anything dropped is named, never silently discarded.
- Download sitemap.xml, upload it to your site root, and reference it from robots.txt.
Features
- Escapes ampersands and the other XML characters, so the file actually parses.
- Drops URLs on another host, which a sitemap may not list, and says how many.
- Removes duplicates and reports non-URL lines instead of skipping them quietly.
- Stops at the 50,000 URL limit and tells you to split the rest.
- Runs entirely in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does an ampersand matter so much?
- Because a sitemap is XML, and a bare `&` makes the whole document invalid — not the one line, the file. A search engine that cannot parse the file ignores every URL in it. Any URL with a query string will contain one, which is why this is the first thing the generator handles.
- Should I set priority and change frequency?
- Probably not. Google has said publicly that it ignores both, and treats lastmod as a hint it will disregard if it proves unreliable. They are in the specification, so they are offered — but an accurate list of URLs is worth far more than three fields nobody reads.
- Why were my other domains removed?
- The sitemap protocol allows only URLs from a single host per file, and search engines reject or ignore the ones that do not match. The host of the first URL is taken as the one that counts, and anything else is listed under the warnings so you can build a second sitemap for it.
