Frequently asked questions

Why does the seed matter?

Because placeholder text gets committed. It ends up in mockups, fixtures and test data, and text that reshuffles on every reload makes a diff unreadable and a screenshot impossible to reproduce. The same seed and settings here always give the same text; change the seed when you want something different.

Why Latin rather than readable English?

Because it must be obviously not real copy. Placeholder text that reads as plausible English gets shipped by accident — it survives review because nobody notices it is filler. Lorem ipsum is a deliberately mangled passage of Cicero, and its unreadability is the feature.

Is the word count exact?

Yes, when generating words. Paragraphs and sentences vary in length by design, so those counts are of paragraphs and sentences rather than words — the word total is shown beneath the result.

Can I generate a lot of it?

Up to 200 units at a time. Past that, a browser tab spends longer laying out the text than you spend reading it, and nothing needs more placeholder than that.
