How to use
- Pick the type that matches the page you are marking up.
- Fill in the required fields, marked with an asterisk; leave anything you do not have empty.
- Copy the script tag and paste it into the page's head.
- Check it afterwards with Google's Rich Results Test — markup that does not match the page can be penalised.
Features
- FAQPage, Article and Organization, the three most pages need.
- Serialised with a real JSON encoder, so quotes and ampersands cannot break the block.
- Empty fields left out entirely rather than published as empty strings.
- Address and profile links nested correctly when given.
- Runs entirely in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does a quote in the headline matter?
- Because most generators build the JSON by pasting values into a template. A headline containing a quote closes the string early and the whole block becomes invalid — and a search engine that cannot parse the block ignores it silently rather than reporting an error. Here the object is built first and serialised by the JSON encoder, so any character is escaped correctly, including a `</script>` in the text.
- Why are empty fields left out?
- Because `"image": ""` is a claim that the image is empty, not that there is no image. Validators flag it, and it can suppress a rich result. Leaving the field out says nothing, which is what you mean.
- Will this get me rich results?
- It gets you valid markup, which is a requirement rather than a guarantee. Google shows enhanced results at its own discretion, and it checks that the markup matches what a visitor sees — FAQ markup for questions that are not on the page is a policy violation, not a shortcut. Mark up what is genuinely there.
