How to use
- Choose whether you are adding tax to a price or taking it out of one.
- Enter the amount, then the rate — 8% and 10% are one tap away.
- Read the three figures: before tax, the tax itself, and the total.
- Use the before-tax figure when you are recording revenue, and the total when you are quoting a customer.
Features
- Both directions, with the tax-inclusive one done correctly.
- Vietnam's 8% and 10% rates preset, alongside 0% and 5%.
- Reads 1 000 000 and 7,5 the way people type them.
- Every figure shown at once — net, tax, gross — so nothing has to be worked out twice.
- Runs entirely in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is removing VAT not just subtracting the rate?
- Because the rate was applied to the smaller number. A 1,100,000 total at 10% comes from 1,000,000 — but subtracting 10% of 1,100,000 gives 990,000, which is 10,000 short. The correct figure is the total divided by 1.10. At a 10% rate the two answers differ by roughly 1% of the total: small enough to pass a glance on an invoice, and wrong every single time.
- Which rate applies in Vietnam?
- The standard rate is 10%, with a reduced 8% applied to many goods and services under recent stimulus policies, 5% for certain essentials, and 0% for exports. Which one applies to a given line is a question for your accountant — this tool does the arithmetic once you know it.
- Does it handle other countries' GST or sales tax?
- Yes. The arithmetic is the same wherever a percentage is added to a price; only the rate changes. Type any rate up to 100%.
- Why does the total sometimes end in an odd fraction?
- Because tax rarely divides evenly. The figures are shown to two decimal places, and the rounding rule for an actual invoice is set by your tax authority — usually rounding each line, not the total. Where that matters, round the line first and enter it here.
